You’ve Got Money… Now What? | Book Extras

September 1, 2025

Hey there! Thanks for reading my book 😀

This page contains the extra things I mentioned throughout the book, and a bunch of stuff I think you might find useful.

Articles and podcasts.  Calculators and tools.  Helpful resources.  Social groups and other cool stuff.

If you’re looking for the PDF of images used in the book, you can get that here.

While you’re here, you might also want to sign up for my newsletter.  It goes out a couple of times per month and contains new content, plus my latest thoughts on all things financial independence, wealth and mindset.

Below I’ve listed some content for further reading. If you’re more of a listener, you might enjoy the following two podcasts that I produce – available on all podcast apps:

Strong Money My best personal finance articles updated and converted to audio format. Lots of principles and mindset lessons spelled out. Spotify. Apple.

Aussie FIRE. This one is a collab with Hayden from Pearler, where we chat about investing and FIRE.  Lots of Q&As, case studies, and deep conversations. Spotify. Apple.

FURTHER READING

Here’s some of the extra content I mentioned inside the book, where you can dive deeper into some of the more detailed topics.

Taxes and retirement.  For a list of scenarios and how much tax you should plan for when living off your portfolio, check out this post.

The power of flexibility.  A full breakdown on how impactful this is to guarantee you never run out of money – this article has tons of examples.

Franking credits.  If you’re not sure how they work or need a refresher – read this.

Mortgage strategies.  There are several effective strategies you can use to ensure a debt-free retirement – I outline them in this article.

Investing for beginners.  If you’re new to shares and transitioning from property, here’s a simple guide on how to buy your first shares.

Having fun.  There’s no need to be short on ideas for ways to enjoy yourself without spending a ton – I wrote a list of 50 things you can do.

Debt recycling.  If you still have a while too go on your journey and you want to optimise your mortgage, consider the strategy of debt recycling I outline here.

Invest now or wait?  Everyone battles with this.  To help, I wrote two articles on this topic – here and here – to explain what I think is the most sensible way to approach it and what I do.

Lump sum vs dollar cost averaging.  Here’s a link – and another one – to the research mention in the book.  And here’s an article I wrote on how to invest a lump sum.

CALCULATORS AND TOOLS

The following are a few handy calculators to help you crunch the numbers and play around with different scenarios.

Things like figuring out how long until you reach FI, how long your portfolio will last, and how fast you can pay off your mortgage.

  • Networthify Early Retirement Calculator.  Probably the easiest and simplest FI calculator you’ll ever find.
  • Aussie Tax Calculator.  A simple tool to quickly see how much tax is payable at different levels of income. See also tax article listed above.
  • Rich, Broke or Dead? Post FIRE Calculator.  Great for working out how long your money will last in retirement and testing different ‘flexibility’ scenarios.
  • Extra Mortgage Repayment Calculator.  Figure out how fast you can be mortgage-free or nail down how much extra to pay so that it lines up with your timeframe to FI.
  • Dividend tracker.  I created my own spreadsheet which helps me keep an up to date tally of our annual passive income from investments.  You can get it below…

RESOURCES TO MANAGE YOUR WEALTH

The following are all trusted contacts and tools I use myself.

Financial advisor. If you’d like help planning out different retirement scenarios, fine-tuning your portfolio, getting advice around tax or super, or simply getting a ‘sanity check’ to make sure you’re doing the right thing, an advisor can help.  (Fun fact: they’ve also read my book)

Mortgage broker. I’ve been using this broker for over a decade now.  Whether you’re looking to nail down the best mortgage rate, get a new loan, implement debt recycling, or anything else – reach out and they’ll be happy to help.

Portfolio tracking. To track your portfolio without the hassle of spreadsheets, you’ll need a tool.  I’ve been using Sharesight since 2015 – it helps me monitor my portfolio performance, track dividends and franking credits, and manage capital gains tax over time.

Spending tracker.  Knowing your numbers inside out is important when you’re stepping away from work.  After using a spreadsheet for many years, I’ve now converted to the ultra-powerful Pocketsmith.  It’s now saving me a bunch of time and takes away the annoyance of entering lots of numbers in columns!

Investing platform.  I get asked a lot which broker I use for investing.  For ages now, I’ve been using (and working with) Pearler – an Aussie startup.  They’ve designed a platform specifically for long term investors, with great automation features and clean design.

Just so you know, some of the above tools and services may provide this blog a referral fee at no extra cost to you.  I only ever recommend things I use myself and genuinely believe in.  If you’d rather I didn’t receive payment, feel free to look up these companies separately.

SOCIAL GROUPS AND PAGES

  • Aussie FIRE discussion group.  Regular group chat around all sorts of FIRE related topics.  Created by my buddy Aussie Firebug.
  • Reddit FI Australia.  For those who prefer forums, and those who are more detail oriented, you can pick up a lot of great knowledge here.
  • My Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.  I post thoughts regularly + any content I’m working on.  Feel free to say hi or ask me a question.
  • Semi-retirement Facebook group.  Created by Money Flamingo, a great Aussie blogger and proponent of semi-retirement.
  • Pearler Blog and Exchange.  I write investing articles on the blog monthly.  And the Exchange is a friendly place to ask investing questions for Pearler users.  I hang out there and answer a few myself.
  • My newsletter.  Stay in touch via my newsletter to make sure you get all my best content and important updates.

Thanks again for reading my book!

I really hope it has brought you value.  And I hope these extra resources are useful as you create your freedom-based lifestyle.

If you found the book helpful, leaving a review wherever you got the book would mean a lot to me.  It also helps other readers discover this book and spreads the message further.
